Hi, I’m Zac.
I come from a family of photographers. My dad and my grandpa were both photographers, and I grew up around my dad's studio, surrounded by all things photography. The smells, the tools, the lights, the kindness and community, it was being instilled in me then and I'm putting it into practice now with my own vision.
I went to school for Studio Art and became an art teacher in a variety of schools around the Twin Cities. After that I worked for Target corporation, until my wife and I decided I would leave just before the birth of our second child, in the hopes to build our lives and business’ around the value of time with our kids. My wife has been a respected Naturopathic Doctor throughout all the changes, and has supported me in pursuing my passion, as we try and stay as connected to our kids lives as possible right now.
Photography is a way for me to tend to my own soil. It gives direction to my creativity, and it's where my values live: slowing down with my children, finding beauty in the ordinary. I have two kids, Rui is 4 and Goldie is a year and a half, and photographing my own kids and family is a beautiful way to slow down and notice the things that make everyday life a joy. I'm constantly working at my craft.
A big passion of mine is noticing the nuance in variety of beautiful natural light and using that to create feeling. My style uses a lot of warmth and unique exposure in the camera to produce images that are real and say something honest in an artistic way. I shoot with a Fujifilm camera and a variety of wonderful lenses, an aesthetic I fully enjoy. But I'm not one to get caught up in perfection. My goal, especially when I'm photographing others, is to capture the emotion and feeling of the time and place and people, to create visual memories that make you feel that experience and memory again in the future. In a world of technology and advancement, I see my photography as a way to help create balance, by slowing down, and creating something real and human.
I love celebrating other people's unique personalities and showing them the value we all bring to this beautiful earth. I've had a unique eye that's been practiced and developed over the last 20 years, and before that, just being in my dad's studio, soaking it all in.
Welcome! Glad to have you stop by.
